Finding the Commonality of Our Humanity

Terrell’s keynote invites the Ukrainian audience into a deeply personal journey—from growing up in Detroit, the largest Black city in the United States, to standing in solidarity with Ukraine’s fight for liberation and justice. Often asked, “Why are you over there helping those white people?” Terrell responds with clarity: Black people and Ukrainians share more than history acknowledges—resilience, struggle, and the pursuit of dignity.

This talk is more than storytelling. It’s a call to action. Terrell aims to equip listeners with the skills and confidence to build authentic relationships with Africans and Black people whose cultures may be unfamiliar. Through shared experiences and honest reflection, he will encourage the audience to embrace cultural differences, overcome discomfort, and initiate new connections—not only with African peoples, but with diverse communities around the world.
